This year’s theme is: Conservation in Aotearoa New Zealand: Inside and Outside // Ki Roto, Ki Waho

The field of conservation in Aotearoa New Zealand is a landscape which is complex, dynamic and ever evolving. As cultural heritage material experts, we work in collaboration with indigenous communities, the GLAM sector, and leaders in other fields of knowledge, to produce outcomes that ensure the wellbeing of collection objects and the people connected to them. This work can take place within large urban institutions, smaller regional organisations, or private practice, and each setting has their own individual challenges.

Outside pressures such as climate change and funding availability also have an impact on our work, and often require outside-the-box problem solving to achieve the best results for the collection objects and people involved.

Topics are:

  • Community and Conservation
  • Disaster Response
  • Environment Management
  • Conservation Projects

Ko te manu e kai ana i te miro, nōnā te ngahere

Ko te manu e kai ana i te mātauranga, nōnā te ao.

The bird that consumes the miro berries, will own the bush

The bird that consumes knowledge will own the world.

The conference will be held at Auckland War Memorial Museum, Tāmaki Paenga Hira, 17-19 October 2023 in the museum's Under the Dome event space. The conference will feature two days of presentations and posters alongside an industry trade fair, with the third day devoted to tours and workshop opportunities.
