The Resale Right for Visuals Artists Bill passed its third reading in Parliament yesterday (Thursday 24 August 2023), with Cabinet agreeing to final proposals for the Resale Right for Visual Artists Regulations.

Now that Cabinet has agreed to the regulations proposals, Manatū Taonga will work with the Parliamentary Counsel Office to draft the regulations, which will be submitted to Cabinet later this year. Implementation of the scheme will commence soon after, starting with the selection of the collection agency.

The Bill requires the scheme to commence by Order in Council on 1 December 2024 at the latest. Implementation will take somewhere between 6 months and 1 year so it is conceivable that the scheme could be in place earlier than that. MA is working closely with Manatū Taonga on this and will keep members updated via Mīharo.
