Curator, Technology
MOTAT is currently looking for a Curator – Technology in the Curatorial, within MOTAT’s Collections Hub.
This role will be responsible for assessing acquisition offers and producing research and accurate content about MOTAT’s Technology collection items/taonga. These collections include Communication Technology, Computing, Visual and Audio Technology, Domestic Technology and Industrial Heritage. The Curator – Technology will also be able to apply the appropriate tikanga to items/taonga when developing or acquiring for MOTAT's collection.
Key responsibilities include
- Researching, documenting, and producing accurate content about MOTAT’s technology collections.
- Contributing to the development of technology collections and preparing acquisition proposals.
- Managing internal and external collection enquiries.
- Enhancing collection catalogue data to ensure accuracy and accessibility. • Assisting in researching potential acquisitions and participating in deaccession processes.
To be successful in this role, you will have
- Bachelor's Degree in Museum Studies, Arts, Sciences, or equivalent qualification.
- 3-5 years of experience in a similar curatorial role within a museum or cultural institution.
- Subject knowledge relating to MOTAT’s Technology collections would be advantageous, of equivalent objects and/or the space that MOTAT is collecting in.
- Advanced computer literacy and proficiency with Vernon database or similar collection management systems.
Even better if you possess
- Demonstrated ability to integrate a Te Ao Māori perspective and incorporate tikanga into museum practices, a willingness to learn is a must.
- Strong organizational and research skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate within a diverse team environment.
