Are you an experienced exhibition designer? Do you want to work at Te Papa, New Zealand's national museum?

  • You'll join Te Papa's Design Team of spatial and graphic designers - key players in developing engaging, interactive exhibitions that meet the needs of diverse audiences
  • You'll be responsible for design documentation, including plans, elevations, sketches, 3D renderings, lighting design, furniture design, and detailing, and will also play a key role in developing physical interactives. You'll need to understand and apply requirements relating to AVs and other digital products, engineering standards, fire protection, power, and data services
  • You'll get to work alongside experts in various fields, and also share your own fresh perspectives

Who are you?

You're a positive, proactive mid- to senior-level designer with five or more years of experience, combining big-picture creativity with an appreciation of detail. You're confident, collaborative, diplomatic, and calm, and can collaborate effectively with a wide range of people.

As a designer, you have:
  • strong experience in exhibition design, in museums or a comparable environment
  • an understanding of narrative-based, participatory exhibitions for broad audiences, especially young people and families, and design across media and subject areas
  • a degree in Interior Architecture, Spatial Design or Architecture or qualification equivalent
  • knowledge of sustainability, accessibility, and durability principles
  • an ability to assess project priorities, and approach constraints as creative opportunities.
  • knowledge or interest in Māori and Pacific design.

This permanent, full-time position sits in the Audience and Insight Directorate, and reports to the Design Team Leader.

The starting salary for this position will be between $79,299 to $91,000pa with further room for progression through the band. Offers will be made within the range to reflect the skills and experience offered by the candidate and those required of the role, and internal relativities with other employees.
