This two-day course will provide professionals in conservation and collections care with practical project management skills, offering an understanding of real-world project management practices within the heritage setting. The course is highly practical, providing opportunities to work on real case studies and learn how to effectively employ project management tools.

Course content

  • ​​Introduction: Stages of project management
  • Initiating and defining projects in practice
  • Project planning, including estimating project costs and time
  • Monitoring and controlling projects: managing change
  • Risk management: assessing, evaluating and managing project risks
  • Reviewing and effectively closing projects.

The workshop is highly practical and is conducted through a combination of lectures, case studies, and practical exercises, ensuring that participants gain both theoretical knowledge and practical experience in project management. ​

Who is this course for?

This course is suitable for all those working in museums, libraries, archives, galleries and historic houses who are managing projects such as remedial conservation, organising exhibitions, gallery refurbishments or storing and moving collections.​

Course leader

Andor Vince is a Collections Care Advisor with 20 years of experience in the heritage sector. Throughout his career, he has managed and provided expert guidance on a wide variety of conservation and collections care projects.​Andor holds a Certificate in Program and Project Management from the Chartered Management Institute (UK). Over the past 15 years, he has taught project management to conservators and collections care professionals globally.
