Theresa Cooper - Deaf Consultant

I am an independent consultant providing expert guidance on accessibility, heritage and engagement with Deaf culture.

Over the last 25 years, I have worked across public and not-for-profit organisations to advance preservation, access and engagement in New Zealand’s arts, culture and museum sectors. I have undertaken a range of advocacy and governance advisory roles in arts and museum organizations and in Deaf culture and education settings.

I provide leadership and governance as an independent director, with a strategic and inclusive approach shaped by my identity as a Deaf individual who uses New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL). My experience includes extensive leadership roles in the Deaf community, and I bring Deaf community values and a collaborative style to my work. I also draw on my technical training in landscape architecture, museum studies, and NZSL.

My professional style is characterized by my lived experience, technical expertise, and a commitment to advocacy and inclusivity.
